We have previously discussed the need for a suitable shaving brush, and how it can make the difference between a good and a great shave. Now you need to know how to use it properly to ensure the smoothest, most comfortable shave ever.
It’s always best to start your shave with a clean and recently washed face; preferably after you have just stepped out of a warm shower.
Wet your shaving brush in the water and shake off or drain the excess water before applying the shaving cream. Do this by placing the tip or centre of the brush in the cream and gentle rotate in circular motions to create a lather. To make the lather richer, apply some more warm water but be careful not to use too much.
Once the cream is sufficiently applied to your brush, paint the lather over the areas of your face and neck you want to shave using an ‘up and down’ motion. Continue this until you have a thick layer of rich lather covering the shaving area.
Now it’s time to replace your brush in its shaving brush holder in order to begin shaving following our detailed shaving guide.
Finish off by rinsing your face and neck with cold water before applying a soothing and moisturising post shave balm.
Don’t forget to look after your brush by cleaning it and preparing it for the next shave. See our guide to looking after your shaving brush for hints to keep your brush at its best.
