Since its humble beginnings in 2003, the annual Movember initiative has grown into a global phenomenon. Now spanning 21 countries, and boasting over 5 million participants, Movember has become an awaited feature on the calendar each year.

And it’s thanks to this continued worldwide support for men’s health issues that The Movember Foundation has been able to fund over 1200 projects across the globe.

The foundation aims to halve the number of cancer-related deaths in men by the year 2030, and reduce the rate of male suicides by 25% in the same timeframe.

Remember to play your part by not only registering for Movember as a Mo Bro or Mo Sista, but by also making a donation and encouraging your friends to do the same.

Here are some of the organisations and projects that benefit from Movember Donations:

1. PROSTATE CANCER:

Did you know that prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men? It’s said to kill 35 men every hour!

Australian Projects

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

In partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, The Movember Foundation has already funded numerous local projects, including the Prostate Cancer Specialised Nurses Service: A first of a kind Australian program that provides men with prostate cancer free specialised care while in hospital. To date, the program has received AUD 3,600,000 in Movember funding!

The aim is to increase early detection and diagnosis of cancer to ensure effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

Global Projects

TrueNTH

This global care program has been revolutionary in helping men living with prostate cancer by giving them access to care that improves their overall quality of life.

Prostate Cancer Outcomes (PCO) Initiatives

Through global initiatives, The Movember Foundation aims to build a better understanding of prostate cancer and men’s different experiences. Working across seven countries with 40 collaborators and researches, PCO compiles reports to form solid prostate cancer findings.

2. TESTICULAR CANCER:

Testicular Cancer strikes young, making it the most common cancer for men under the age of 40 (it’s most prevalent in men aged 15 – 40 years old).

Global Projects

Testicular Cancer Research Breakthrough

The Movember Foundation has linked up with research partners around the globe to fund the largest study of testicular tumours. The comprehensive findings have lead to numerous ground-breaking discoveries that aid in the understanding and fight against testicular cancer. To date, this program has received AUD 1, 050, 000 in Movember funding!

European Organisation for Research & Treatment of Cancer

Realising the many different ways in which cancer can rear its ugly head, The Movember Foundation partnered to fund a clinical trial aimed at finding the best treatment for men with returning testicular cancer. To date, this program has received AUD 1, 200, 000 in Movember funding!

3. MEN’S HEALTH & SUICIDE PREVENTION:

The global rate of suicide amongst men is alarmingly high. Can you believe that one man dies from suicide every minute?

Australian Projects

The Movember Foundation has donated over AUD 2-million towards this program, which aims to encourage fathers to take a more active role in their sons’ lives through a three-year parenting program.

Like Father, Like Son: Fathers Against Violence & Aggression

The Movember Foundation has donated over AUD 2-million towards this program, which aims to encourage fathers to take a more active role in their sons’ lives through a three-year parenting program.

NewAccess

Men’s mental health issues often go undiscussed. By penetrating local communities, the NewAccess program aims to encourage early action when it comes to mental health by giving men direct contact to NewAccess coaches in their area.

MAN/ART/ACTION Tribute Pole

This Movember Foundation-funded project helps military veterans in Canada suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and increased risk of suicide. Built on the idea that men share more with one another when working using their hands, the project saw veterans collaborate on a physical project in memory of those lost in war.
