We’ve rounded up the latest summer trends so you can do what you do best: Become a professional beach bum, of course!
1. Perfect Summer Shorts
There’s no time like the silly summer season to go bold for the beach! And this season’s best swim trunks boast confident colours (think vibrant brights like orange or turquoise), and bold patterns like florals, stripes and other intricate designs. Choose a style that works just as well in water as it does with a t-shirt and shoes at the poolside.
2. Cool Pair of Shades
You’re not beach-ready until you’ve got on a pair of sunglasses. There are thousands of styles to choose from, but the general rule of thumb is that your sunglass shape should be the opposite of your face shape (i.e. a square face best suits rounded or aviator frames). Whatever shape you go for, invest in a classic style that will stand the test of time.
Beach day tip: Before popping on your shades to protect your eyes, remember to apply an effective sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) to your face and neck to save your skin from the harsh summer sun. And remember to reapply your sunscreen lotion at least every two hours (more often if you’re in and out of the water) .
3. Take-me-anywhere Shoes
A practical pair of flip-flops or open sandals is ideal for beach days. But if bearing your toes isn’t for you, you’ll find a great alternative in boat shoes, espadrilles or slip-on sneakers – they’re easy to slip on and off, and can take you beyond the beach too. Whatever you do, don’t be that guy who wears high-top sneakers or lace-up shoes!
4. Shirts, Tanks & Tees
You’ll spend most of the summer days shirt-free, but we still recommend taking along a cover-up should your mates suggest a change of scenery. A simple tank top is the perfect complement to shorts and flip-fops; while a graphic tee paired with shorts & slip-on sneakers is your summer go-to outfit. Top off shorts and boat shoes with a button down shirt (remember, it’s summer after all, so roll up the sleeves and leave a few buttons undone) for an easy yacht party style.
Beach day tip: Stay fresh throughout the day by using an antiperspirant deodorant. We recommend the Acca Kappa White Moss Deodorant Stick that not only keeps you dry and prevents body odour, but also smells great with hints of citrus and scented wood. Don’t forget to reapply after drying off from the water. .
5. Under Cover
The harsh summer sun can cause irreversible damage to the skin, so it’s important to keep protected, particularly if you’ll be exposed to the sun for long hours. Get maximum cover with a trendy peak cap; or top of your summer lounge look with a panama hat.
Beach day tip: Chlorine and saltwater can have adverse effects on your hair, such as dryness, so be sure to thoroughly rinse your hair directly after a swim, and follow up with a cleansing shampoo like the Prospector Co,’s Hydrating Shampoo that will get rid of any remaining residue. .
