(Read Time: 2 Minutes)

As quality skincare and grooming practices become more and more the norm, people are left wanting to learn how to better manage skin issues that they come across from day to day. Pureman wants to answer some of the most common questions that we’ve come across about dealing with dry and sensitive skin.

What is dry skin and what causes it?

Though there are an inherited group of disorders that can cause dry skin, called ichthyosis, majoritively dry skin is caused by environmental factors. Low humidity, too much time in hot water (literally, not figuratively!) and hot or cold weather. Dry skin can also be caused by hormonal imbalances and lack of natural oils in your skin. Dry skin feels tight, itchy and rough and can create peeling or rashes, making your skin look dull and lack lustre.

What is sensitive skin and what causes it?

Sensitive skin is skin that is easily irritated by factors such as changing weather temperatures, dust, environmental and other allergies, or products that come into contact with your skin. These irritations can present in the form of redness, blotchiness, dryness, bumps and breakouts. Genetic factors such as age, race differences and gender can also come into play when dealing with sensitive skin.

How can I combat dry and sensitive skin?

There are many ways in which you can help improve dry and sensitive skin. Limiting your time in the bath or shower and using warm water as opposed to hot water will improve dryness. Using a humidifier at home to add more moisture in the air will help keep your skin more naturally moisturised.

When looking at other ways to combat dry and sensitive skin, skincare regimen and products that you choose to use can improve irritations and be a major help when it comes to keeping your skin looking and feeling healthy and moisturised.

Choosing and using the right products

When you’re fighting dry and sensitive skin, it is imperative that you choose products that are gentle, ideally fragrance free or very lightly fragranced, and created with sensitive skin in mind. Of course, there are some cases in which a simple change of products will not do the trick.
