Beat The Heat and Look Good Doing It

Posted by on

Brace yourselves, Australia. We’re in for a scorcher. We’ve seen some record highs and felt that sticky embrace of summer and we haven’t even reached November. Already, the fear of sweat stains in all the wrong places and dripping brows over business beers are putting a damper (pun intended) on our outdoor activities. What’s a bloke to do? Fortunately, there are a few tricks to beat that heat and look good doing it.

WICK IT, WICK IT REAL GOOD

When it comes to wardrobe, you want to look for the fabrics that “wick” - or absorb or draw off - liquid. You also want to be on the lookout for fabrics that allow your skin to ‘breathe’. Linen, moisture wicking cotton or specially formulated polyester clothing made to keep you cool are all great choices. But get this, though it may seem unlikely, merino wool is quite possibly the BEST option when it comes to staying cool and comfortable in the heat. Merino wool is highly breathable, it absorbs UV radiation and helps reduce sweat and odour. Clever sheep.

LET IT ALL HANG LOOSE

Well, your clothing, that is. Loose fitting clothing allows for more air to flow through and circulate, keeping you cooler. That doesn’t mean go buy clothes that are too big for you during the hot months. We want you looking svelte through the heat, and finding the right clothes for both your body type and temp - say, a button down linen tee for example - will keep you feeling cool in both senses of the word.

SMELL LIKE A PUREMAN, NOT A CAVEMAN

The last thing you want to worry about when you meet up with a lady for drinks on that sunny rooftop patio is if you’re going to leave the right impression. In this particular case, we’re talking about that unwanted sweat that is giving you those pubescent about-to-ask-a-girl-to-the-dance armpit stains and the smell that goes along with it. Refer back to what to wear to help keep the stains at bay and invest in a good deodorant. Aluminum based antiperspirants react to your sweat and can lead to staining, especially if you over apply. Deodorant on the other hand, isn’t generally the culprit of armpit stains when used correctly. It is free of aluminum and its purpose is to mask that stink. Sweat is odorless. That dodgy smell coming off of you is actually bacteria living on your skin and deodorant kills that bacteria. We have a number of deodorants that will keep you smelling fresh as, and not remind your date of her high school boyfriend who bathed in “Eternity”.

Now get out there and enjoy the heat, Gents.
