Our first two posts focused on exercise, grooming and style and how they help keep you looking and feeling confident. This post takes a look at what we put into our body and how good nutrition can make a difference not only in the more obvious management of your weight but in how it can help prevent disease and keep your skin healthy.

Skin

Vitamins A, C and E are all valuable antioxidants. Focusing on healthy eating such as antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables can help limit free radical production and help prevent some sun damage, keeping you looking younger. Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon or herring can reduce inflammation and redness.

Disease Prevention

The majority of annual deaths are caused by chronic diseases. These are issues such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity and stroke. Eating healthy foods is one way to help eradicate these often preventable diseases. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low fat meat and low fat dairy are considered staples in a heart healthy diet. Avoiding refined flours and sugars will help control diabetes.These food focuses help, also, in preventing obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which are all risk factors for stroke and health issues in and of themselves.
